Custom Eye Contact Lenses

Custom eye contact lenses, as might be expected, are far more expensive than ordinary soft contacts. Most are specially made to order for theatre productions or for fancy dress parties and need at least a week to manufacture.

There are other types of custom lenses for patients with specific eye-sight problems but here, we're talking about the crazy special effect lenses called SFX contacts.

I will confess I just don't have the courage to try these custom eye contact lenses as they are wider in diameter to be able to cover your whole eye. That means they are more difficult to put in as you have to lift up the eyelid to fit the lens underneath.

Some of the intricate designs available also mean that the lenses are even thicker than normal-sized Halloween contact lenses which probably means they will be more uncomfortable...

Cost of Special Effect Custom Contacts

Prices for sclera special effect custom eye contacts(sclera by the way, means the white membrane coating the entire eyeball) start from around $135 PER lens. More complex truly crazy designs cost over $200 per lens with some as much as nearly $300 each!

Most sclera lenses have a diameter of 22.0 versus the usual 14.5-15.0 of other contact lenses but some are available in a diameter of 18.0 so they cover most but not all of the eyeball.
